While Oxfordshire as a whole ranks within the 10% least deprived areas in England, it includes seven areas which rank within the 10% most deprived nationally, notably parts of Oxford City, Banbury and Abingdon.
There are approximately 28,000 children living in poverty in Oxfordshire. Some city wards including Blackbird Leys, Rose Hill & Iffley and Barton & Sandhills have child poverty rates of a third of their population by area.
There was an 80% increase in the number of referrals of 15 to 19-year-olds to mental health services over the period 2011-12 to 2016-17, and this has continued to increase into 2021.
