We are thrilled to announce that the Oxfordshire Youth Awards are back!
2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, but we are happy to let you know that our night of celebrating the amazing achievements of Oxfordshire’s young people will not be missed completely.
This pandemic has affected every single person in every community across the globe in one way or another. What has been inspiring to see throughout, however, is how something so negative and devastating has sparked so much positivity. And now, more than ever, we feel that this is something so important to shine a light on. Even though the Youth Awards 2020 had to be postponed earlier this year, it was never far from our minds – alongside our Youth Committee we have worked on finding an alternative solution to celebrate our young people this autumn.
With kind support from our media partner Oxford Media Factory, we will be able to showcase the best of Oxfordshire’s talented youth via livestream here on the Oxfordshire Youth website, and we are excited to be announcing dates very very soon!
With the return of the Youth Awards, our Youth Committee are launching a brand-new award; the COVID-19 Young Hero Award.
Throughout this pandemic and in spite of all the drastic changes to ‘normality’ it has caused, people have come together to support each other. As a youth work charity we have been in a fortunate position to hear about some of the incredible achievements and selfless acts of kindness young people have shown during these challenging months.
Whether it is dropping food packages within their community, setting up online community groups or arranging street games to ensure the most lonely and isolated are not forgotten. Young people – in the face of so much uncertainty, so little control over their own lives and confusing guidance – have done some incredible things and deserve to be celebrated.
If you know a young person aged 8 to 21 who has made a real difference during the pandemic, please nominate them for The COVID-19 Young Hero Award. We are asking for 1-minute video nominations that can be played on the night as part of the livestream. On the night, we will be asking the audience to vote for their COVID-19 Young Hero.
