Mention ‘Flo’s’ around Oxford and the name is a familiar one. It’s the place in the park, but it’s more than just a building amongst the trees.

Whilst it may seem relatively new, the site has been around for a number of years, originally as a Family Centre run by social services, and just over a decade ago a new building emerged almost heralding a new dawn. However, due to budget cuts, the family centre was preparing for closure in 2016 and it seemed the Florence Park community was to lose its local support centre for good, posing serious challenges for families in the area.

But the people of Florence Park are made of tough stuff and together developed a business plan allowing them to open the site as a community run, enterprise-funded centre. A fresh new lease of life, operated by the people for the people. Over the past few months, they have continued to go from strength to strength and now offer not only a community space for people to come together, but a space of playing, eating, and learning.

Whilst the first two are really important (the new Flo cafe does the most amazing cakes which is reason alone to visit), but one of the real testimonies to them is being able to offer training courses and workshops for parents and professionals that are of real benefit at reasonable prices that won’t break the bank.
