Learning and Development

Oxfordshire Youth runs a series of affordable and engaging learning and development opportunities and events on a variety of subjects. All are aimed at supporting the sector to provide greater services and opportunities to young people.

From the basics of youth work, including safeguarding, first aid, and DBS checks, to specialist subjects such as understanding young people’s challenging behaviour, mental health, and counselling skills, we help organisations develop and empower their staff for their organisations to strive.

Our Annual Youth Work Conference provides a great space for networking and hearing from key people on a range of relevant, new and emerging topics.

Our full and easily accessible programme of training and events are heavily subsidised for members. Check out our member benefits for free offers.

We also offer Food Hygiene as an online course for your convenience. Please contact us for more information. Watch this space for new online course and webinars

Introduction to Young People’s Mental Health Awareness Training

Introduction to Children and Young People’s Mental Health Training has been designed to support frontline staff to promote their part in our national culture shift which embraces social and emotional wellbeing and responds early to signs of mental health problems.

It takes a non-clinical approach that explores how frontline staff can empower individuals to have responsibility for the wellbeing of everyone around them, looking at strategies which increase the emotional literacy and resilience of children and young people. In response to early signs of mental health problems, it considers tools which can be used with children and young people and an increased awareness of other services available.

What does the training provide?

A framework for thinking about mental health

Information about child and adolescent development and mental health

Information about risk and resilient factors

Plus an increased understanding of:

Children and young people’s mental health

How you can help to support resilience

How to signpost to local specialist services
