Our Mental Health Ambassador Project channels young people’s lived experience of mental health issues into new ways to reach out and support 11-to-17-year-olds.
Ambassadors are trained to look inside themselves, be creative and find their voice in order to inspire and help others.
Working in partnership with The Mental Wealth Academy we offer a ten month programme designed to build confidence, relationships, mental health resilience and leadership skills.
Ambassadors collaborate with young people across the county and within OY to break down barriers to accessing support and challenge the stigma of mental ill health. A powerful example of this is the close relationship the Ambassadors have with the crew that lead our groundbreaking podcast “Are You Listening?”.
The project is highly accessible, requiring a commitment of five hours a month that easily fits around study, work and other commitments.
living with social media | coping techniques e.g. mindfulness | leadership skills
safeguarding training | mental health first aid | leading group work
The ambassador team creates and supports the delivery of a project for 11-17 year olds designed to increase their understanding of mental health and wellbeing. After training, participants also have the option of becoming a Mental Health Ambassador Mentor and taking on a mentoring role for the next group of trainee ambassadors.
