Digital Natives Project

Groundbreaking partnership launches comprehensive digital skills programme to transform youth opportunities in Oxfordshire.

We are delighted to announce a transformative partnership with global technology leader Intel® and Solutions Integrator Insight to launch the Digital Natives Project, a pioneering initiative addressing digital inequality among young people in Oxfordshire’s OX4 area.

This will address digital poverty and expand digital readiness among young people facing economic disadvantage in OX4 in Oxfordshire. By investing in training and resources, Intel®, the Intel® Skills for Innovation Initiative (Intel® SFI) and our team at Oxfordshire Youth aim to create a model for how technology can empower young people, equip youth workers with vital skills, and inspire community-focused innovation.

This strategic collaboration comes at a crucial time. The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 identifies digital access as the most transformative business trend, expected to impact 60% of employers by 2030. The Digital Natives Project represents a significant step toward ensuring local young people are equipped for this rapidly evolving digital future.

What is a Digital Native?

A digital native has grown up in a world surrounded by technology and is often adept at intuitively using digital tools. However, not all digital natives, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, have access to the resources, training, or opportunities needed to harness digital tools for personal or community development fully.

What’s included in this project?

  1. Upskilling Oxfordshire Youth Staff enabling them to better support young people by integrating digital learning into their work.
  2. There will be two Digital Futures Workshops during the February half-term and the Easter holiday, during which young people will learn digital skills to create social impact projects.
  3. Digitising Oxfordshire Youth’s existing ILM-accredited Young Leaders Programme, which is scheduled to next take place in May 2025, to integrate leadership and digital skills.
  4. Research and a white paper analysing digital competency in Oxfordshire, focusing on youth and youth workers in socio-economically disadvantaged areas.

The Digital Futures Workshops will provide young people with hands-on experience in programming, audio/video editing, game design, and augmented reality. They’ll apply these skills to create digital content supporting social causes they care about, while also visiting local businesses to explore real-world applications of technology.
