The Next Generation of Leaders

Oxford Young Leaders is a bespoke leadership programme, the first of its kind to cater specifically for young people 14+ years old. Graduates of the young leaders programme feel more confident in their leadership abilities when it comes to interacting with others, forming friendships, being proactive, and carrying out their leadership responsibilities.

Businesses are clear that key drivers of success for young people in their working lives are attitudes and attributes such as resilience, enthusiasm, creativity and communication skills.

Young Leaders programme

The programme takes place over a 2-day, 2-night residential, where Young people take part in activities such as Raft Building and Rock Climbing while undertaking Leadership Workshops, and completing a Log Book of their work. This Log Book provides evidence for the qualification. After the weekend away, young people are asked to go back to their youth groups, communities, work places or schools and run an activity or take responsibility for something new, which they then get feedback on. Once this is complete, we review their Log Books and apply for their qualification.

Oxford Young Leaders is not only for the highly academic. Due to its unique combination of experiential learning and accessible assessment tools, young people of all abilities and backgrounds can achieve a qualification, which gives them a real ‘edge’.

The programme is a Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills, and is accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM). The programme is nationally recognised, meaning that employers, colleges and universities hold it in high regard.

“I’ve been so lucky to have been given such outstanding opportunities, I wouldn’t be who am I today without them. But young people’s futures shouldn’t be decided by luck. The work Oxfordshire Youth does ensures that as many young people as possible have opportunities to grow and become empowered in a way they wouldn’t otherwise be able to.”
